Black Desert Online achieves €2 billion in revenue and attracts 55 million players

Black Desert Online has reached a milestone of €2 billion (or $2.17 billion) in total revenue after almost a decade since its release. The popular MMO has amassed a player base of 55 million across different platforms including PC, consoles, and mobile. Due to its staggered release in various regions, the game is considered a franchise by its publisher, Pearl Abyss.

Black Desert's staggered release

Black Desert was initially launched in 2014 for Korean PC players, followed by a release for western PC players two years later. In 2019, the game expanded to mobile devices, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, with a native current-gen version expected to launch soon. Apart from the MMO, Pearl Abyss is working on expanding the Black Desert universe with a new game called Crimson Desert, a single-player title set in the same fantasy world. Additionally, the company has other projects in the pipeline such as DokeV and Plan 8, which are slated for release on PC and consoles.
